It’s been a while since I have updated my blog. This time of the year is always so busy. My parents were just here for Thanksgiving. My in-laws are coming next week, then my parents again and one of my brothers. Welcome to the Hotel California!
The good news is that LAUGHING WITHOUT AN ACCENT is finished and will be published in late April. I CAN NOT WAIT!! I just got a great blurb from Alexander McCall Smith. I was a huge fan of his anyways, but I now officially love him.
I hope to meet many of you on my book tour. More info to come!

I also went to Leffingwell and had Mrs.Sandberg, for 2nd and 3rd grade, by far one of my most favorite teachers! I think I was one year behind you in school. I also had Mr.Sandberg for 9th grade English. I loved your book! My son is reading it now for a book report. He is a freshman in High School and is also enjoying it. Can’t wait to read your new book!!

Hi Shari,
I think we need to form a Mrs. Sandberg Fan Club. You are so lucky to have her for two years. My brother had Mr. Sandberg at La Serna. Small world indeed.
I just saw Mrs. Sandberg a few months ago for the first time in about 20 years. She was the same sweet person.
I hope your son enjoys FIF!
Best,
Firoozeh

WOW!! It is a small world! Do you have contact information for Mrs.Sandberg? I would love to send her a great big HELLO! If so, you can send it to my email address. If you need to pass it by her first, I understand. Just tell her Shari Bradley would love to contact her. My son just finished the book this morning..He really liked it. It was fun sharing with him that I went to that school, oh, I think I remember that crossing guard, etc. And I have taken him to Whittier and he has seen Leffingwell, and the Veet Vood (Whitwood) Mall. So it made it a little more special for him to read. Keep up the great writing.

Firoozeh joon salam,
This is the weirdest request. I am one of your 1,000,000,000 etc. cousins from Ahwaz. My parents, (Dr. Mohamd Ali Jazayeri) and brother were at your wedding in the 80’s. Your aunt, Zari Khanoom, used to tell me that I looked like you at the time!!!
Anyways, My mother in law, Parry Ahmadizadeh, (also from Sadateh Jazayeri)called me yesterday from Tehran and asked me to get your address because she wants to write to you. You can respond to my e-mail if you are interested.
Thanks,
Sara
PS:Don’t feel bad not inviting me at your wedding, I was living in Paris at the time (This is just to make you feel good not inviting me:)

Firoozeh,
I wanted to let you know that I loved your book. I am American and have been married to an Iranian woman for 18 years. Her background is very similar to yours so it was quite a treat to read and enjoy so many similar stories. After being around my wife for over 23 years, I thought that I knew many of the whys in her background. After reading Funny in Farsi, I feel like I now know the rest of the story. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book that really puts things in the proper perspective. Can’t wait for your next one.
Sincerely,
Bill

Hi Bill,
You lucky guy! 18 years with an Iranian woman. That’s a lot of potentially good Persian meals..
I have also known my husband for 23 years and been married for 18.
Wishing you 18 more. (At least!)
Best,
Firoozeh

Hi Naz,
I just went to your blog. Thanks for writing about my book. I don’t have Persian script so I could not leave a comment.
Thanks again and keep reading!

Hi Niloofar jan,
You should be happy to know that ABC is making a sitcom based on Funny in Farsi. Unfortunately, the writers’ strike has stopped everything so I am waiting for the strike to end!
I hope you read my book a few more times. I’ve heard it gets’ REALLY good on the 30th reading.

so , I am forward to watch your movie very soon .
an Iranian actress should be the best selection as “Firoozeh “. hopping see both you and your movie.

Dear firoozeh:
At first I should say, your book was so popular when published first time in Iran.I have a tight tact to choose books for reading ,and usually have no interest on populars and bestsellers. But when I read your work(by insistance of a friend)I got just shocked.except the brilliant pieces about passions of a migrant family, the most admirable part of your masterpiece,is your satiric sense.Frankly should say, after eternal work of master Salinger(catcher in rye)I had not seen such sense of humor.(albatte firoozeye aziz hamoonjoor ke midooni, dar masal monagheshe nist). However so many of your tender jokes in text, missed in persian translation.your kidding about froggy rain that made your french boy friend crazy was a climax(of course the majority of iranian readers could not get the point).Anyway as an Iranian,I’m proud of birth of such creative author from my homeland.
kind regards
Soheil Saffari
February 14th, 2008 at 2:43 am
Thank you Soheil, for your kind and generous words. I hope to see you sometime in Iran! (I have no plans to go there in the immediate future but someday…)
Keep reading! There really are a lot of good books out there.
Best,
Firoozeh

Hello Mrs. Dumas
My name is Bahram. I’m a poet & I’m one of your book’s fan from Persia. (I mean IRAN)
Anyway I’ve read your “Funny in Farsi” in the name of “ATRE SONBOL, ATRE KAAJ”.
Up to now i still don’t know why the name of the book has turned to this name?!!
by the way I’m looking forward your new book wich i know it is much better than the previous one.
I have many comments on your “Funny in Farsi” book.
many things that prove the passion of words, events, nationality…
I believe that this book shows many things of human being.
And the most important things of this book is the honestly way of talking in it. The thing that you can hardly find in Iranians. I think you are the only one who could described our country well. All things honestly. Passions, people, nature, love, diferrences, streets… I think that book was full of facts that it’s hard to forget them. Believe me! I cried after reading your book.
Excuse me because of my bad English.
Sincerely yours
Bahram

Hello Firoozeh,
I hope it’s ok to jump in here! I am just about to finish your latest book and I seem to have slowed down as I get to the end. I tend to do this when I get close to the characters. I will always remember the “elbow grease” experience in “Funny In Farsi”. That was great. Like I mentioned I will finish “Laughing Without An Accent” soon and I am loving this also. Have you done signings in the Bay Area??
Dora
June 21st, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Hi Dora,
I was at the Contra Costa Book Festival last month and at Kepler’s books as well. I don’t have any more Bay Area events planned but I am happy to sign a book for you. Just call Kepler’s books (650-324-4321) , buy the book(s), them to hold them for me, email me and I will go sign them. Shipping is free on orders over $50.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the book!
Best,

Hi Sana jan,
Thank you for your email. Tell your little sister I said “barikallah!”
I do need to upload some pictures on my website. I promise to do that but I don’t have any digital pictures of my father. Next time I see him, I will take his picture. I’m slow at these things…
Say hello to your mother from me and tell her that if I ever have a chance to come to Iran (I hope so!) I will have to meet her and have a cup of of tea with her.
