I’m going to the first ever Carmel Authors’ Conference this weekend. For those of you not familiar with Carmel, it’s a charming seaside town in California. The whole town looks like a postcard. It’s not hard to convince authors to come out there for an event. I can’t wait!
Speaking of charming, my book tour has taken me to lots of places in the US that I would have never seen otherwise. One such place was Rockport, Massachussetts where there is an independent bookstore called Toad Hall. Not only is it the kind of place where you want to spend an afternoon browsing, but it just so happens that the owners donate 100% of their profits to environmental causes! That’s right, 100%! Please go visit them if you are in the area and tell them Firoozeh sent you. In the meantime, please support your local independent bookstore.

We loved your book.!!!!! Brought back memories, good laughs and perfect images of our own Persian family memories. All the Moezzi Clan will receive your book for the holidays. Your stories are so similar to ours…just about ten years behind ours…scholarship to Stanford not Berkeley and learning English on the kindergarten playground. Sorry to have missed you in Carmel (we live there). Ali has always been the cook in the family but after reading the book he decided to practice more last night…always looking for guinea pigs to test on…last night we did the rice with lima beans and lamb…needed more dill but the topic of dinner was sharing your book with our friends! Thanks for making us smile…feel free to email for more funny stories to share…we have plenty! We love your nose by the way…Maryam Moezzi’s nose was just like that (Ali’s mom’s nose…Ali’s is flat-he looks like the side view of the picture on the american express card!~) Best wishes Kathy, Ali and Jillian Ariana Moezzi

Thank you to the Moezzi clan!
My nose has been receiving SO much fan mail lately. I love your description of Ali’s mom nose…
If you want signed books for the holidays, call Kepler’s Bookstore…650-324-4321. I will go sign them for you. Shipping is free for over $50 which is a bargain… and we Iranians love bargains!
Have you ever been to Cafe Stravaganza in Carmel? The owners are Iranian and very, very nice. If you go there, tell them Firoozeh (and her cute nose) sent you.
Thanks again and keep reading!
Best,
Firoozeh

Yes we love the Cafe S. I just took my father there for his 80th birthday! The owners are delightful and next time we go we will tell them YOU sent us!!!
The other day in the Crossroads…just down the way from Cafe S…I did run into a lady that stated you and her daughter are dearest friends and that you all got together while you were here in Carmel. She raved how nice you are and that we should contact you. Of course this took place at the Hula Hut over the discussion of the island cole slaw and your book! This world is so small. I am sorry to say that for the life of me I cannot remember your friend’s name or her mother’s! If you know who I am talking about please thank her for encouraging us to write you and also tell her she was definitely right about the cole slaw!
It’s Ali’s nose that is funny (my husband)…not your’s…you and Maryam( Ali’s mom) have beautiful noses…and in this family we have all kinds, shapes and SIZES so I feel we are experts! I kept wondering what Jillian’s nose was going to look like when she was born!!! Sometimes I would pray really hard just asking for a safe nose! So far so good!
I will e-mail later and tell you how many books we need. That was kind of you to offer. The Persian Moezzi Maffia each deserves one! (that’s what they look like when they line up and take the family pictures). Please let us know when you have another book coming out. Thanks for writing back, Kathy Moezzi

Hi Kathy again,
It indeed is a small world…
My next book comes out in April so I hope you and the rest of the clan can make it to a book event.
Let me know if you go to Cafe S. again. I remember they had a particularly good bread pudding. (I’m on a diet now so I seem to remember it even more vividly!)

Hi again Firoozeh,
Jillian and I just came back from lunch at Cafe S. and we thought of you! We hope you are having a great holiday season and that you are busy writing! The other day someone asked Jillian what nationality she was and she stated Funny in Farsi!!! Thought you’d like that…
Anyway, our other 1/2 breed Moezzi cousins came to visit for Thanksgiving and I thought you’d get a kick of Kevan’s website. He lives in S. Ca and is a comedian! A Persian Comedian at the Laugh Factory…I guess most of his work is about growing up in America with a Persian dad and you can just imagine the jokes that come out…anyway when you have time go to http://www.LaughFactory.com or k-voncomedy.com (kevan+k-von) or http://www.myspace.com/kvoncomedy He is pretty funny.
Shaheen, K-von’s brother is the only one in that age group that is doing a typical Persian parent’s dream…he is in school to be an Orthodontist! We all need one of those in the family with price of children’s dental work! Oh! to call a family member Doctor is sooo important to the older Moezzi’s.
The other young cousin that came to visit (Johnny Moezzi) is a “rock star” (in Jillian’s eyes) and he calls himself Johnny from Kings…We finally listened to his CD the other day and it was pretty fun stuff.
Well, Jillian is getting ready for Santa to pay her a visit and I need to go get my lesson plans ready for my very energetic kindergarteners…one more week!! When you come this way let us know…Ali’s cooking is really getting good! Oh, a few weeks ago Kevan was on Style Network cooking his favorite Persian meal…Hot Guys Who Cook!!! We all died because the only thing he knew how to make was mac and cheese! One of our aunt’s gave him cooking tips right before the show!!! Have a great holiday season and a super new year! If the egg nog is making her an enthusiastic fan, then I say you should all drink the egg nog!
Happy holidays,
