Hello and welcome to my website!

New Title!
In response to requests from my readers, I have much more information on this site, including a section for educators with a discussion guide that can also be used by book clubs. There are also a couple of humor sections from the New York Times and a piece about reluctant readers.

And of course a big thank you to all the readers out there in the United States, in Iran, and in other countries who have emailed me with your kind words. Thank you! Merci! Gracias! Dank! Tak! Grazie! Arigato!

Praise for Laughing Without an Accent

"These stories, like everything Firoozeh Dumas writes, are charming, highly amusing vignettes of family life. Dumas is one of those rare people--a natually gifted storyteller."

I’m going to the first ever Carmel Authors’ Conference this weekend. For those of you not familiar with Carmel, it’s a charming seaside town in California. The whole town looks like a postcard. It’s not hard to convince authors to come out there for an event. I can’t wait!

Speaking of charming, my book tour has taken me to lots of places in the US that I would have never seen otherwise. One such place was Rockport, Massachussetts where there is an independent bookstore called Toad Hall. Not only is it the kind of place where you want to spend an afternoon browsing, but it just so happens that the owners donate 100% of their profits to environmental causes! That’s right, 100%! Please go visit them if you are in the area and tell them Firoozeh sent you. In the meantime, please support your local independent bookstore.

The internet is amazing. Yesterday, while Googling myself, I discovered a place called Bensenville, Illinois where they are trying to decide onĀ  a book for their community read. FUNNY IN FARSI is one of them. I wonder how they heard about my book. Maybe they were browsing the Sociology section at their local Border’s. (I’m not making this up. It’s in Sociology, per order of corporate offices. I can just hear the conversation…”where do we put a humorous Middle Easterner? Sociology of course!”) In any case, thank you Bensenville! I am honored to be in the running.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the blog. I thought I was going to have to beg my relatives to write stuff but fortunately, real people not related to me have written!

I just found out that the good folks in Dayton Ohio have selected FUNNY IN FARSI for their community read. I love Ohio!

I have joined the future and now have a blog. This is the closest we can get to chatting over tea and baklava. Come join the conversation! I look forward to hearing from you.

And yes, some of you have noticed that the name of my next book has changed. It will be called Laughing Without an Accent. Why the name change? Long story. You’ll hear it on my book tour!
